Hi everyone,
it's been a while since I've posted an article here! Nothing exciting happened in December... excepted that I shoveled snow most of the time when I wasn't working. Then I celebrated Xmas with my boyfriend and my family in Québec, which was great. Then on January the 1st my bouyfriend and I flew from Montréal to Paris with 3 hours delayed due to a snow storm in Montréal.  Then we took the TGV (very fast train) to go to Lyon which is in the South West of Paris. We spent most of the time with the family and I've visited a bit Lyon which is a really beautiful city. Sounds like there was a virus spreading around France at this period of the year, because everyone has been sick at one point. My turn was the day were we had the Xmas lunch... I spent the day vomiting and sleeping. Appart that day, the food was really good, but my stomac wasn't able to lodge all the food unfortunately. I'll need more training before my next visit!

We (my boyfriend, his 2 brothers, his niece and one of his brothers wife) also spent 5 days in the Alps in a place called Puy Saint Vincent; that's where my boyfriend own a flat with his 2 brothers.

Finally, we spent 1 afternoon in Paris before heading back to Montréal and then Québec. I had a really good time in France and I'm looking foword to see Kler-Yann's family again. Hopefully I wont be sick next time!

Hello everyone,

First of all I just want to thank everyone for their kindness while I was in . I met some new people and I’ve been really privilege to meet once again some really nice persons. I also had an incredible chance to see again my friends and that was probably the best moment during my stay in Oz this time.

My flight back o Québec was really long (again)… even more that I slept for approximately 4 hours the nights before. Yep, the night before I had dinner with Nikki and then I went for a coffee with Gavin. Then I waited the bus for ages to go back to Ashfield where I’ve finished packing for the departure. While I was ready to go to bed, I saw a huge Huntsman spider walking on the wall and hiding behind the shelves in Nerdland! So, I decided to borrow Ash’s bed for that short night and leave Nerdland to Mr. Huntsman! Then it was a big run at the airport to get my excess luggage registered and pay for that (special thank for maman Nikki who stayed with me all that time, so it was much more fun with her). Then I got in the plane hoping to sleep… 20 hours later I was landing in Vancouver with a magnificent view and a maximum of 2 hours of sleep. Imagine an early sunrise on a rainy day near the ocean. Then you have these huge mountains as a shore line and some had snow on the top and the highest one was hiding their head in the clouds. It was a very peaceful view and wishes you were there to see it. Then I did all the line up possible out there, got my luggage and deposit them in a new place… good news, everything followed me this time, nothing lost! At this point of the trip I looked like a zombie and I had to wait 3 hours till the next connection. Sleeping wasn’t a good option with my bag + computer and I knew I wouldn’t wake up anyways. So, the tea + walk in the cold option were the best solution in my case. Tea was good and the walk outside was good, but not THAT cold. I was hoping a -5 to -10C, but it was lots warmer (probably around 10C)! Anyways, I’ve survived till my flight and then jump in the plane to Montréal where I arrived really awake (but not much more sleep)… life is strange sometime! So, while I was waiting my last flight (to Québec city), I called my brother and chat for a while. That was great! Then I arrived at destination with my fan club (my parents and my boyfriend’s mum) waiting for me. Back at home the cat remembered me (is not that stupid sometime) and my boyfriend (Kler-Yann) arrived a bit later. It was nice to be back home and see everyone. To my surprised, Kler-Yann didn’t have a haircut for the last 3 months… that was the 1st time I saw him like that! He looked funny, but I got used to since.

I spent the first 4 days with Kler-Yann and his mum. We visited a few things around the city and had dinner with my parents. Kler-Yann’s mum left to go back to on the 18th and since then I’ve tried to catch up with my life here. I’m back to uni and back to work too; Kler-Yann is working a lot (and it will get worst in December) and the cat is having a normal cat life (sleeping most of the time).

To answer your question (I can hear it from here), yes we do have snow! We had a few snow flakes 2 days after I arrived and on the 20th of November we had our 1st snow storm (15-20 cm of snow in a day) of the winter. Since then we still have a bit of snow on the ground and some day we have rain, but most of the time we have snow. I took some photos of the 1st snow here.

So, I guess it’s about all for the moment. I hope everyone is fine and I’ll still post updates and photos on this blog so you can hear from me!

Cheers!

Isa

P.S. I friend of mine (from British Columbia) couldn’t sop laughing at me this week when we had a chat… sounds like I have an Australian accent now.

Hi everyone, juste a quick note to tell you that I'm leaving Qc tomorrow and flying back to Australia. I'll arrive in Brisbane on Wednesday the 15th and my supervisor is picking me up at the airport. I don't know my schedule for the next few days, but I'll see what's going on and let you know. For the next 3 months I'll be in Oz and I'll be writing on another blog http://isaaustralia.skyrock.com/ which is in French (for my family in Qc), but you can see the photos.

Hope to see some of you soon!

Isa

Hi everyone,

sorry for being so quite since a while. Yesterday I had my huge exam to determined if I was allowed to start officially my PhD. Everything went well; after 2 hours of questions and talking with 4 profs at Uni, they said I was accepted and so I could start officially my project! 5 months of intensive worl and reading, I can no concentrate on my reserach project! isn't great?!

To celebrate this great day, I went hicking with my supervisor in the afternoon... that was in a very nice place near Québec city call Vallée de la Jacques-Cartier (Beth, that's where we went). The day was beatifull (25C and full sun) and the forest was just perfect. We had good time and saw a few very nice creatures (1 marten, 1 porcupine, lots of squirels and chipmunk and little frogs). The view at the top of the mountain is fantastic! The only problem we had was the mosquitos... anoying beast! They just jump on us and bite us everywhere! I have red spots everywhere this morning; it's ichy! Well, I'll get over it I guess!

Lookout in half way to the top.

 Lookout at the top!

Some cute flowers

So, what's next? Well, I'm moving in my new flat with my boyfriend in 2 weeks from now. I also have to prepare my manips and PhD project... and my work in Australia too!

The approximate dates are the following:

- leave Qc around August the 10th... arrive in Sydney but probably fly directly to Brisbane on the arrival (August the 12th).

- based on Bribie Island till mid-end September to work with cute scallops (Amusium balotti); I plan to go to Brisbane on the weekend if possible a couple of time, but everyone is more than welcome to visit me there... sounds like the research center where I'll stay is located near the beach!!!

 - Somewhere in mid-end September, I'm going in Hobart (TAS) to work with 2 other scallops species (pecten fumatus and Chlamys asperrium) and maybe teasing a few Tasmanian Devils... if they are in an enclosure of course! I don't know how long I'll stay there (a couple of weeks), but I'll defenitely go back to Sydney for October the 13th (Nikki and Patrick's wedding).

- I might spend a couple of weeks in Sydney in October till I go back to Québec in November (12th).

So, dates are subjects to changes depending of how things going with my work, but I'll do updates when I'll be in Oz.

Can't wait to see you guys and spend some time in Oz again...

Cheers!

Isa xxxx
